Fabric Therapy

After a looooooong day spent entirely at the computer, I am itching for some hands-on fun. This urge combined with my latest obsession with Swedish traditions & folk art (to get an idea what I'm talking about, take a look at my etsy treasuries Fika and Dala), had me awake into the wee hours with project ideas tumbling through my tired brain. I was about to jump into the logistics of an ornament that combines Dala horse imagery, felt, embroidery, and pages from an old Scandinavian book (never mind that I discovered it's written in Danish) when I came up short:
Ohmygawdit'sJenn'sbirthdaytodayandherbabygirlisdueinthreedays!

This translates to my oldest (as in length of friendship, not her age) friend in the world having a birthday and being mere days away from giving birth to a baby girl. The baby girl for whom I promised to make some booties.
The wool felt is from The Felt Pod on Etsy. The green piece is 5 inches wide, sized to fit a die cut machine, I believe. But a perfect wee size for itty bitty baby booties. The yellow and blue pieces of felt are actually half inch wide wool "ribbons," I intend to use as embellishment.
The Bitty Booties pattern is available as a free download from Heather Bailey. I don't think I've sewn anything from a pattern since 7th grade Home Ec class. We're talking mid-eighties. Oh dear.
Well, I got as far as sewing on the reinforcement triangles and playing with decoration designs. My stash search for velcro (for a strap fastener) came up empty. How can this be? I had about 2 pounds of the stuff. Did I sell it in one of our pre-move yard sales last summer? Could I have been that short sighted? Oh, but a better idea would be to attach both ends of the strap with elastic, no fastener to fuss with. Hmm, none of that in the stash either? Well, I can do the embroidering then. Uh, is it really possible to not have the right colors amongst my entire shoe box full of floss? Yes, yes it is possible.
