Recycle Bin Bookmarks

THINGS ARE NOT DIFFICULT TO MAKE. WHAT IS DIFFICULT IS PUTTING OURSELVES IN A STATE OF MIND TO MAKE THEM.  - Constantin Brancusi

This little bit of wisdom precedes the projects in Ruby Star Wrapping: Creating Packaging to Reuse, Regive & Relove by Melody Miller and Allison Tannery. An inspiring reminder in a beautiful book.

The embellished gift box pictured above begins with an empty food box from the pantry. With this notion and the Brancusi quote as in mind, I raided my stash of cardboard food boxes and security envelopes rescued from the recycled bin. Add some pages from damaged obsolete de-assessioned library books, junk mail, catalogs, magazines, old maps, test prints from darkroom days, sewing off-cuts, multiple scissors, knives, straight edges, and glues. Tah-dah. The recycle bin bookmark is born. I'm toying with the idea of putting together bookmark kits which would consist of a cardboard base, a variety of collage materials, and makings for a tassel. What do you think?
