Growing Pains

Right leg of jeans, nearly completely mended.
Shrinking pains is more accurate than "growing pains" to describe what's going on behind the radio silence on this here blog-a-rooney. The focus of Odd Bird Studio has been shifting with my shifting interests. While I'm reluctant to part ways with the blog-o-sphere, I'm not certain how this space will or will not fit with whatever Odd Bird Studio is to become. So, as I find my way creatively, things are likely to be more spotty and quiet than the usual 3 posts a week I had been accustomed to sharing.

One new development in this sea of uncertainty and experimentation is that I've closed my Etsy shop. I've been ambivalent about Etsy from the start. Lately, though, my changing focus from product to process along with the undervaluing of hand work that is rampant on Etsy make it an undesirable platform for me.  I continue to browse and shop Etsy, but it just doesn't feel like a good fit for me as an artist.

Granted, I could change my mind once I get a better handle on where Odd Bird Studio is headed. If that happens, or if I find a different means to sell my work online, I'll let you know about it here.

  1. My world has been so busy of late that I completely overlooked this post of yours and I only realised tonight that I hadn't come back to read it (over a week later too, my goodness). What a big year for change 2015 is turning out to be. Stepping away and relieving ourselves from our usual commitments is the best way to reaffirm the old or discover the new areas in which we want to direct our time and energy. Good for you, Laurie. I think it takes courage to do these things and regardless of whether you choose to continue in this delightful space here, I'm pretty sure we'll still keep in contact :) xo
...and by the way, that stitching is totally brill!!!

    1. Thanks for the support, Xan. I just ran across a similar sentiment at maya*made, rather poetically put:
"[The spirea] was resilient after our hard winter and seems stronger than ever- just like me! We are all so much like a garden… We are filled with as much beauty as we cultivate. Without tending, weeding and caring for ourselves we all know what happens."

Synchronicity - be it simultaneous thoughts or encouragement, seeing or hearing the same thing over and over in a short period of time, etc. - makes me sit up and pay attention. Here's to synchronized growth and tending (and fantastic overalls!).
