International Women's Day

In honor of International Women's Day, here's a sampling* of my favorite fiercely feminist artists and writers who inspire, ask questions, provoke thought, and push the boundaries with their creative endeavors. Enjoy! And please add your favorite women in the comments section.
This is a family portrait of an unidentified relative. It came to me among a collection of photographs from the late 19th to  early 20th century. I love the girl's defiant tilt of the head and the stubbornness in her eyes and set of her jaw.
Kiki Smith

Lousie Bourgeois

*This list is by no means comprehensive, just a few of the women who, off the top of my head, have had great impact on my approach to art making.
