Yoni # 6 features reclaimed cotton (damaged denim jeans) button stitched
with linen thread to a wool felt backing. The satin stitched fish motif is sewn with perle cotton.
The fish, like the inverted triangle, is a symbol of the yoni. Comprised of two crescents, the fish shape is a simplified rendition of external female genitalia or the birth opening. An oft repeated, yet not credited, sketch (shown here) depicts an infant being passed through a large, sculpted yoni fish. This ceremony was supposedly a sacred ritual of rebirth.
