Experiment: Rust Dye

All the rusty bits and bobs I've been collecting from the sidewalks of Philadelphia are being put to use. Following instructions by Cas Holmes in The Found Object in Textile Art, I bundled each rusty thingus in a piece of cotton or wool fabric that I first saturated in a white vinegar, water, and salt solution. Destined for an air tight bin to keep them moist, I'll spritz the bundles with vinegar as needed and check on them next week to see how the rust dye transfer is progressing. This quick, loose experiment, with very little to control, is a nice balance to the deliberate stitching I've been doing on the yonis. Plus it's pretty darn fun.
